Character Background and Description Jona is a young Icelandic woman of the lower class. She started working on her father's ice fishing ship when she was 16, and loves the danger and excitement of the job, even if it's colder than hell out on the waters. She long moved passed resentment for her living situation, and instead focuses on taking care of her father and younger brother. Her mother is estranged after divorcing her father about ten years ago, and Jona very rarely sees her despite the size of the base. As an Ice Fisher, Jona travels with her father's crew to the Frozen Sea and the Black Ice every day to cast their nets. Most fish they catch are small and don't sell for much, but Jona and the crew are ambitious and try to go for some of the bigger beasts that dwell deep in the sea. Despite the age of the moonbase, a mere fraction of the sea life on MINOS has been discovered. Jona has dreams of a creature she swears she saw the night her father's boat impacted something in the dark and almost capsized; deep in the water after being thrown overboard, she saw something huge and reflective, with long frilled tendrils that floated behind it, coming towards her. She still couldn't quite make it out when a rescue rope was thrown to her and she was pulled back aboard. Jona is relatively thin because of her lower class status and tendency to miss meals to make sure her brother and father (who she suspects is developing an illness) eat. But with her work on the fishing vessel, she is very strong and lean-muscled. She has very light brown hair and bushy straight eyebrows that give her a very serious expression. She is hardworking and loving to her family. She likes to cook and watch the races, which her father always gives the crew the day off to go watch.
